Recap
The Wildcats fell to USF, 54-75, Tuesday evening in the season opener for both teams. The Wildcats showed promise, with four players –
Joe French,
Dylan Robertson,
Marcus Garrett, and
Collins Joseph – each scoring in double figures in the game. B-CU and USF entered halftime tied at 29-29 after a solid defensive half from the Wildcats.
USF shot 23 free throws in Tuesday's game, while the Wildcats only attempted six. Wildcats head coach
Reggie Theus expects more physicality from his team going forward.
"Our guys need to become different players," Theus said. "When we are a team that settles for jump shots, that's what we are doing - settling. I've always been a drive first guy. I think over time we will get better, but right now we aren't confident enough with the ball in our hands to really turn the corner and get to the rim."
Scouting the Blue Raiders
Middle Tennessee State opened their season with a 98-59 win over NAIA school Brescia University Tuesday night. The Blue Raiders had four players in double digits for scoring in the game, led by Josh Jefferson with 16. MTSU scored 47 points off of turnovers, and 56 points in the paint in the victory.
The Blue Raiders finished 5-18 overall a season ago.
