Sunshine Slam

B-CU opened the Sunshine Slam on Monday with a regional matchup at Utah. The tournament now moves to a central location in Daytona Beach at the nearby Ocean Center. The Wildcats open the festivities at the Ocean Center against Bryant at noon on Saturday. Four games are scheduled for Saturday from noon until 7:30. Results of these games will determine matchups for another round of four games on Sunday.

Located only two miles from the Bethune-Cookman campus, the Wildcats are no strangers to the Ocean Center. The last time the Wildcats took the floor at the Ocean Center was Nov. 16, 2016, when they defeated Kennesaw State, 75-72

Recap

The Wildcats (0-3, 0-0 SWAC) struggled shooting the ball in their regional matchup with Utah. Damani McEntire scored 20 on 6-8 shooting with two threes, as well as four assists, five rebounds, and seven steals. Aside from McEntire and Marcus Garrett's nine points, the rest of the Wildcats scored a total of 26 on 10-45 shooting. B-CU could not overcome its poor shooting, and the Utes took the game, 86-55

Scouting the Bulldogs

Bryant (1-2, 0-0 NEC) opened its season with a 122-54 win over NAIA school Fisher College. The Bulldogs have endured a tough non-conference swing in two games since. They were defeated 83-64 by Rhode Island in their Sunshine Slam regional on Friday, Nov. 12, and they fell to Clemson, 93-70 on Monday.

The Bulldogs are averaging just over 85 points per game on 43-percent shooting and 32-percent from three-point range. They average 42 rebounds per game and 20 assists per game. Junior guard Charles Pride leads the Bulldogs with 19.3 points per game in three games. Senior guard Peter Kiss scored 24 on 10-20 shooting with eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the Bulldogs' loss at Clemson.

Damani's Rise

  • After his 20-point performance on Monday night, Damani McEntire ranks fifth in the SWAC in points per game – in only 49 minutes played
  • McEntire has yet to miss a free thrown in 10 attempts – he is one of only two SWAC players remaining without a miss
  • McEntire is second in the SWAC in total steals with nine.

All-Time Series

Friday's game will be the first ever meeting between Bethune-Cookman and Bryant.

The Sunshine Slam debuted in 2019. Delaware, Oakland, Southern Illinois, and UTSA made up the tournament field, with Delaware emerging victorious after a 3-0 weekend.

Looking Ahead

The winner of Saturday's game will play the winner of the game between Holy Cross and Air Force to be played directly after B-CU-Bryant at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two winners will play at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, while the runners-up of each respective game will play at noon.
