Three Point Shooting Lifts FIU Past @BCUWBB 68-57

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Florida International used three-point shooting to break open a close game and hand Bethune-Cookman a 68-57 setback Tuesday night at Moore Gym.

Racquel Ferrer-Bernad and Olivia Trice scored 14 points each as the Panthers (6-3) hit five of eight from behind the arc in the third quarter and four of eight in the fourth quarter to pull away from a 28-26 halftime game.

Freshman Kayla White scored 10 of her team-high 12 points in the first half as Bethune-Cookman (2-7) took a 26-23 lead on Camary Harris' three-pointer with 1:33 left in the second quarter before FIU scored the final five points of the period.

Morgan Beacham added 10 points for Bethune-Cookman, followed by Tania White with nine and Kayla Clark and Harris with seven apiece. Clark also registered her fifth consecutive double-figure rebounding game with a season-high 13.

B-CU travels to Georgia Southern for a 3 p.m. game on Sunday.

"Third quarter was tough. We stayed with them throughout, but their outside shooting hurt us."

"We continue to fight. We handled the pressure a little bit better, but the turnovers and fouling are hurting us. We got better in both those area, but we didn't start the game great and we weren't on the same page to start the third quarter."

NOTES: B-CU is now 2-1 at home … The Wildcats outshot the Panthers from the field (41.5 percent to 34.5 percent), but FIU made 11 three-pointers, most by an opponent this season...Beacham has now been in double figure scoring in seven of the nine games so far … Kayla White also had three assists, three steals and a blocked shot.
