Scouting the Knights
Central Florida has opened the 2021-22 season to a 4-2 start, but the Knights have dropped their last two contests after opening with four straight wins. Most recently, UCF fell to #21 Auburn, 85-68, on Dec. 1. The Knights trailed by only three at halftime, but the Tigers pulled away late for the victory.
Darin Green Jr. leads UCF with 15 points per game. His teammate, Darius Perry sits just behind at 14.2 points per game. The Knights average 72 points per game and allow an average of 68 points per game. They are shooting 44 percent from the field and 34 percent from three point range. They attempt just over a dozen free throws per contest and they have an even zero rebound margin through five games. C.J. Walker leads UCF in the rebounding department, averaging 5.3 boards per game.
Notes
- Two Wildcats will make Orlando homecomings Sunday. Reggie Theus returns after spending the 1989-90 NBA season as the Magic's second-leading scorer through their inaugural season, while Joe French prepped at The Master's Academy just outside of Orlando prior to his time at B-CU.
- The Wildcats have either led or been tied at halftime in four of seven games this season.
- Bethune-Cookman's bench has been outscored by the opponents bench in six of seven games this season.
- Damani McEntire leads the Wildcats at the free throw line. His 19 attempts lead the Wildcats. He has made 17 of those 19 shots, good for the best free throw percentage on the team and the second-best mark in the SWAC (.895).
- Joe French ranks in the top three in the SWAC in scoring, field goal percentage, three-point percentage, three-pointers per game, and field goal attempts. He has scored 55 total points over his last two games.
All-Time Series
Friday's game will be the 26th meeting between Bethune-Cookman and UCF. The Knights enjoy a 19-7 lead in the all-time series, most recently edging the Wildcats, 70-65 on Dec. 18, 2019.
