Wildcats Return to SWAC Play to Host Grambling State

Daytona Beach, FL – Conference play gets underway in earnest for the Wildcats this weekend as they host SWAC foe Grambling State this Saturday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m.

The Wildcats enter this weekend after a deflating loss at the hands of FIU. The Wildcats led by as much as 18 in the game, but FIU completed a vicious comeback to take the lead in the final minute of play.
 
Marcus Garrett and Collins Joseph each finished with 16 points in the game, while Kevin Davis, the reigning SWAC Impact Player of the Week finished with 11 before fouling out in the second half.
 
Scouting the Tigers
 
Grambling State is 4-11 to start the season. The Tigers are 1-1 in SWAC play, however, their win came via forfeit due to COVID-19 protocols within the Prairie View A&M program. Most recently, the Tigers fell to Texas Southern. 67-61, on Wednesday, Jan. 5. The Tigers have lost their previous six games with the exception of the forfeit.
 
Grambling State averages 61.7 points per game and allows an average of 73.9 points per game. They are shooting 40 percent from the field and 33 percent from distance.
 
Two Tigers, Cameron Christon and Danya Kingsby, average in double figures in scoring. Christon is shooting 44 percent from behind the arc on over 40 attempts.
 
Notes
  • Collins Joseph has scored 14 or more in three of his last four games.
  • B-CU has allowed the second-fewest free throw attempts in the SWAC. Opponents have attempted only 211 shots from the charity stripe this season.
  • The Wildcats rank fourth in the SWAC with 428 rebounds on the season.
  • The Wildcats continue to be disciplined with the ball, turning the ball over only 12.8 times per game – the second lowest number in the SWAC
All-Time Series
 
This will be the sixth meeting all-time between the Wildcats and the Tigers. Grambling State holds a 4-1 edge in the series, but Bethune-Cookman took the most recent matchup – an 87-78 victory on Nov. 21, 2017.
