DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman continues its inaugural season of Southwestern Athletic Conference play this weekend with games against Grambling State Saturday afternoon and Southern Monday in Historic Moore Gymnasium.
The Wildcats (2-9,0-1) opened league play Monday with a 70-68 setback to archrival Florida A&M, losing at the buzzer after leading the contest most of the way.
Kayla White and
Morgan Beacham each scored 15 points while
Taylor Williams scored 14 points and
Tania White 10 for B-CU, who scored 23 points in the second quarter to take a 32-27 halftime lead.
STATS AND STUFF: Beacham leads the team with an average of 12.4 points per game and is ninth in the conference in scoring, followed by Williams (9.4, 23
rd) and
Kayla Clark (8.5, 25
th) … Clark (8.7) and
Imani Reid (5.5) are fourth and 11
th in rebounding… Beacham is eighth in Free Throw Percentage (.667) and
Camary Harris 15
th in three pointers per game (1.2) … B-CU is looking to snap a four-game losing streak.
SCOUTING GRAMBLING:The Tigers (3-10,0-2) are on a two-game skid to start SWAC play, falling to Prairie View and Texas Southern … Alexus Holt leads the team in scoring (15.7 ppg) and rebounding (4.1).
SCOUTING SOUTHERN: The Jaguars (4-9,2-0) swept Prairie View and Texas Southern in their SWAC start behind Genova Johnson (10.2 ppg) and Tanererea Moore (4.1 rpg) Southern forced 33 turnovers to beat Prairie View.
