DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Opening night in Moore Gymnasium was a roaring success as the Wildcats took down the Tigers of Edward Waters, 72-56, in their final exhibition match before the regular season gets underway next week.
How it Happened
The Wildcats defense led the way in their first game action of the season, as they held the Tigers to only 10 points in the second quarter en route to a halftime lead. The effort continued into the second half, as EWU could only muster 11 points while the Wildcats took a 16-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats scored 40 points in the paint on the evening, as well as 22 points off turnovers, 12 second-chance points, and 21 fast break points.
Freshman Guard D'Shantae Edwards finished with 16 points to lead the wildcats on 6-8 shooting. O'Mariyah Tucker provided a big boost on defense with nine rebounds and three steals to go along with 12 points. Chanel Wilson rounded out the trio of Wildcats in double-figures, chipping in ten points of her own.
