DELAND, Fla. – Chanel Wilson scored 19 points as Bethune-Cookman pulled away to 67-54 victory over Winthrop Sunday afternoon in the Hatter Classic at Stetson University.
D'Shantae Edwards scored 16 points, and
Kayla Clark had a 14-point, 16 rebound double-double as the Wildcats (1-8) broke into the win column by holding the Eagles (2-8) scoreless the final 7:47
Morgan Beacham sank a three-point to put B-CU up five, and Edwards scored five points down the stretch.
In the first quarter, B-CU scored eight unanswered points to take a 19-11 lead and never trailed after. B-CU led 21-16 after one quarter and turned a 32-30 lead into a 38-32 halftime lead.
The Wildcats led by as many as nine in the third quarter.
Wilson, who finished 6-11 from the field, made her first four three-pointers.
Clark posted her first double-double of the season and the seventh of her career.
Nia Jordan finished with 12 rebounds for the Wildcats, who outrebounded Winthrop 45-28.
B-CU faces Akron Monday at 1 p.m.

NOTES: Clark's 16 rebounds were a season-high; she now has seven career double-doubles… Wilson has scored 19 or more points six times this season….Winthrop's 26 turnovers were the most for a B-CU opponent this season.
