Women's Track & Field in Second Place after Day 1


BIRMINGHAM, Ala
. – Bethune-Cookman registered its first medals in Southwestern Conference track debut Friday, with Thea Shaw and Indya Campbell finishing 2-3 in the heptathlon Thursday at the SWAC Indoor Championships.


 

Shaw finished second to UAPB's Safiyah John, who posted a 3,981-3,511 margin of victory. Campbell (3, 109) also made the podium, and Jourdon Cooper was fifth with 2,757.


 

After two events, the Wildcats are in second place, racking up 18 points in the pentathlon. After taking the top three spots, Alcorn State Lady Braves scored 28 points in the 3000m run. UAPB recorded 15 points in the pentathlon to finish day one in third place.

The 2022 SWAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships were suspended due to the potential of adverse weather conditions in the area.


 

The event is scheduled to resume on Friday, February 18th at 8:30 am CST with the women's weight throw and the men's heptathlon. 


 

Friday's running events will feature timed finals with the women's and men's 4 X 400-meter relays set to conclude the championships at 4:20 pm and 4:30 pm CST, respectively. 


 

Live coverage on the SWAC Digital Network will begin at 12:00 pm CST with the women's 60-meter hurdles.
