Daytona Beach, Fla. – Three Wildcats combined for 65 points, but the Alabama State attack was too much to overcome as B-CU fell to the Hornets, 89-78, Monday night at Moore Gymnasium.
How It Happened
A tight first half saw neither team lead by more than six and featured six lead changes. The Wildcats (7-20, 5-10 SWAC) entered the half up, 37-32.
Joe French,
Marcus Garrett, and
Kevin Davis combined for 31 of the Wildcats 37 points in the half.
Alabama State (7-20, 6-9 SWAC) fell behind as much as eight as
Joe French hit a three just out of the halftime break to go ahead 40-32. With 14 minutes remaining, a 15-1 Hornets run put Alabama State up, 61-50, and they never surrendered the lead again.
Moore Gymnasium brought an electric crowd to the nationally televised game.
"The atmosphere in the gym is one of the best I've seen, and I've been in a lot of gyms," Wildcats head coach
Reggie Theus said after the game.
Joe French led the Wildcats with 25 points. He,
Marcus Garrett, and
Kevin Davis combined for 65 of the Wildcats' 78 points.
"I'm proud of our guys and the way they compete," Theus said. "We score enough points"
