Daytona Beach, Fla. – Two big first innings were all the Wildcats needed as starting pitching led the way to a doubleheader sweep of Mississippi Valley State, Friday afternoon at Sunnyland Park.
How It Happened
The two games played out nearly identically to each other as the Wildcats (17-23, 10-6 SWAC) took down the Delta Devilettes (9-20, 7-9 SWAC) in two quick rounds of the doubleheader.
B-CU opened game one with a pair of runs in the first as
Desirae Martinez brought home
Haley Parks and
Joslynn Davis with an RBI single through the left side of the infield – and that was all.
Hannah Ortega was the story again as she tossed a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Ortega cruised through the afternoon for her twelfth win of the season.
Game two picked off where game one left off. The Wildcats put three runs on the board in the first inning on a
Briana Paysinger RBI single that scored Davis and
Carrington Robinson.
Desirae Martinez scored Parks with a groundout to push the lead to 3-0.
B-CU added an insurance run in the fifth when Parks grounded out, scoring
Essence Gibbs to make it 4-0.
Halyne Gonzalez was stellar in game two. She finished off a complete game shutout of her own, allowing only three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.
