DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – D'Shantae Edwards posted 17 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals as Bethune-Cookman downed Mississippi Valley State in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon in Historic Moore Gymnasium.
Chanel Wilson scored 13 of her game-high 19 points as the Wildcats (4-10 overall,3-1 SWAC) led from to start to finish to win their conference home opener
Edwards recorded her second double-double of the season and flirted with posting the team's first triple double since Kailyn Williams in 2016. This was her third game with eight or more steals.
Wilson reached double-figure scoring for the seventh consecutive game and 12th time this season. She also had four rebounds and a team-high four assists.
Kayla Clark, overcoming early foul trouble, finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Karianna Woods added seven points for B-CU, while
Nia Jordan and
Morgan Beacham had five each.
Zaria Harleaux scored 15 for Mississippi Valley State, now 2-14 and 0-5.
The Wildcats host Arkansas-Pine Bluff Monday.
NOTES: Edwards also has six double-figure scoring games in the last eight outings … B-CU forced 24 turnovers, the second most for an opponent this season … The Delta Devils' FG% (.300) was the second lowest for a B-CU opponent … B-CU shot a season-best 80 percent from the FT line.
