MINNEAPOLIS, Min. - The Wildcats begin their 2023-24 season with a road matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The game will tip off at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.

Bethune-Cookman finished the 2022-23 season with a 12-20 record overall and a 8-10 record in SWAC play. 

The Wildcats earned the seventh seed in the SWAC tournament. Their season concluded with a loss to the number two seed Grambling State 72-87 in the opening round.

B-CU was led on offense by guard Zion Harmon, who averaged 13.7 ppg on 40/34% shooting splits.

Zion Harmon joins a list of several returning players for the Wildcats including James Henderson Jr., Jayson Matthews, Damoni McEntire, Dhashon Dyson, Simeon Womack, DJ Carter-Hollinger, and Elijah Hulswe.

Scouting the Opponent In-Story Header

Minnesota accumulated a 9-22 record last season, finishing 2-17 in the Big Ten.

The Golden Gophers were the fourteenth seed in the Big Ten tournament. They were victorious in their opening round matchup against Nebraska, winning 78-75. Their season ended in the following round as they were defeated by the sixth-seeded Maryland Terrapins 54-70.

Minnesota was led in scoring by forward Dawson Garcia. He averaged 15.3 ppg, while shooting 46% from the field and 35% from three-point range. Garcia was also the team's leading rebounder at 6.7 per game.

Minnesota has seen several players from last season return including Garcia, Joshua Ola-Joseph, Braeden Carrington, Isaiah Ihnen, Pharrel Payne, Jackson Purcell, and Will Ramberg.


History In-Story Header

Tuesday's matchup will be the sixth all-time meeting between these two programs. Minnesota has won all five of the previous matchups, most recently defeating B-CU 79-52 on Dec. 6, 2002.
