MINNEAPOLIS, Min. – Bethune-Cookman was defeated 60-80 in their season debut on the road, Monday night in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Wildcats went back and forth with the Golden Gophers through the first five minutes of the game as Minnesota held a narrow 10-9 lead at the first media timeout. The Wildcats would struggle throughout the remainder of the half as they were outscored 36-13 following the timeout. BCU struggled on offense throughout the half as they went 7-40 with only one three pointer made.
The offense was able to pick it up in the second half, shooting 53% from the field. Defensively, BCU held the Golden Gophers to 41% shooting while holding them to 0-7 from the three-point line.
The Wildcats were able to cut the deficit to 10 with 5:03 to play following a
Zion Harmon jumper. But Minnesota was able to hold onto the lead with solid shooting along with several key steals to finish the victory.
- Jakobi Heady finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, leading the team in both categories, while also blocking two shots
- Damani McEntire finished with 6 steals
- BCU out-rebounded Minnesota 39-37
- BCU picked up 22 offensive rebounds
- The Wildcats finished 4-18 from behind the arc
