FORT WAYNE, IN– A second-half surge was too much for Bethune-Cookman as they fell to Purdue Fort Wayne, 86-63, Saturday Night at the Gates Sports Center
Bethune-Cookman (5-4, 0-0 SWAC) jumped in front early, taking a 12-6 lead on back-to-back buckets from
Jakobi Heady.
Purdue Fort Wayne (10-1, 2-0 Horizon) kept things close, taking their first lead of the contest at 25-23 midway through the first half. B-CU took the lead right back on a layup from
James Henderson Jr.
The Wildcats took their largest lead of the game at the six-minute mark, 33-27 on a pair of DJ Carter-Hollinger free throw. The Mastodons continued the pressure, jumping in front again 40-39 as part of a late first-half run that saw them take a six-point lead into the break.
PFW powered past B-CU following the first media timeout of the second half, scoring 13 straight as they raced out to a 63-47 lead that they never surrendered as they finished off the 86-63 win.
Bethune-Cookman will sit tight in Indiana as they prepare for a matchup with Chicago State on Wednesday, December 20. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST
