CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Samantha Kelley picked up a hit late Saturday evening, as Bethune-Cookman fell to Texas Tech, 9-0 in what was the final game for the Wildcats in the 19th Annual Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic at the Big League Dreams Complex.
 
Texas Tech (12-4) scored runs in each of the first four innings to break away from the Wildcats.
 
Dee McClarity's RBI single to score Makinzy Herzog opened the scoring in the home-half of the first.
 
Another two runs would score for the Red Raiders in the bottom of the second courtesy a RBI double to left center by Herzog, before the Red Raiders' designated player scored herself one play later stemming from a single up the middle by catcher Kailey Wyckoff.
 
Bethune-Cookman (1-13) got a hit in the game from first baseman Samantha Kelley.
 
The Wildcats would commit five errors in the game, accounting for three Texas Tech runs.
 
The win went to the Red Raiders' Olivia Rains, as she evened her record for the year at 1-1. She worked all five innings in the circle, allowing just one hit and striking out three. The loss went to BCU's Halyne Gonzalez, as she fell to 1-7 on the campaign in tossing four frames and being touched for nine runs (six earned) on eight hits, four walks and striking out six batters.
 
Herzog, Wyckoff and McClarity each tallied two hits in the game for the Red Raiders.
 
Bethune-Cookman next travels to Madeira Beach, Florida to compete in The Spring Games. Once there, the Maroon and Gold will meet teams from Hofstra, Coastal Carolina, LIU, Creighton and Southern Indiana, respectively.
