BCU Evens Series with Shutout of Alabama A&M

Wildcats score 14 in rout of Bulldogs

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Four different Wildcats registered multi-hit performances Saturday afternoon as Bethune-Cookman claimed a 14-0 decision from Alabama A&M to even the series against the Bulldogs in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Softball action at Bulldog Field.
 
Bethune-Cookman (16-29, 14-9 SWAC) scored seven runs across the third and fourth innings, respectfully.
 
Samantha Kelley scored on a passed ball for the 1-0 lead in the second, while Jordyn Villanueva delivered an RBI single to that drove in Essence Gibbs to make it 2-0 in favor of the Wildcats. A bases-loaded walk drawn by Joslynn Davis allowed Villanueva to come in and up the score to 3-0.
 
The score became 5-0 in the third as Villanueva recorded a two-run scoring double to right – her third two-bagger of the season. Ciera Clark drew a bases-loaded walk to earn an RBI and plate Kallie Earlington for the 6-0 BCU advantage, before Desirae Martinez did the same to push across Carrington Robinson for the score.
 
Bethune-Cookman would score seven runs in the top-half of the fifth inning to produce the final 14-0 outcome.
 
The highlight of the inning was a two-run double from Earlington, as well as a three-run, bases-clearing triple posted by Haley Parks – her team-leading fourth triple of the campaign for the Wildcats.
 
On the day, Alabama A&M (22-17, 13-9 SWAC) was limited to just two hits in five innings.
 
Halyne Gonzalez picked up the win in the circle to even her record for the year at 13-13, in working five innings, scattering two hits and tallying two strikeouts. The loss went to Alabama A&M starter Sydney Hall (5-7), as she was tagged for five runs on five hits and four walks.
 
BCU was led at the plate by four players each grabbing a two-hit outing, including Parks with a 2-for-4 showing and adding four RBIs. Villanueva finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish with three RBIs and two runs scored. Samantha Kelley was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI. And it was Carrington Robinson turning in a 2-for-2 effort with two runs of her own.
 
The two teams meet in the rubber game of the series Sunday at 11 a.m. CT, back at Bulldog Field.
