MINNEAPOLIS-
Brayon Freeman and
Trey Thomas combined for 39 on 14-26 shooting, but the Wildcats dropped a 79-62 contest to Minnesota, Sunday afternoon at Williams Arena.
Bethune-Cookman (2-6) played Minnesota (6-3) tough in the early goings, matching the Golden Gophers at 9-8 on a good jumper from Thomas. Eight straight from there gave Minnesota the advantage, 16-9, midway through the first half.
The Wildcat offense sputtered from there as Minnesota scored 21 of the next 25 points to soar in front, 30-13. The Wildcats made things a bit closer before the break to head into halftime down 38-26.
A quick start after the halftime break saw back-to-back Thomas threes and a Minnesota turnover cut the Golden Gopher lead to just four at 38-34 with 18 minutes to play. Minnesota immediately bounced back with a 14-2 run to push the lead back up to 16.
The Golden Gophers took the reigns from there, leading by as much as 27 on the way to the 79-62 win.
