BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Andrew Kiplagat has once again been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, announced by the league office from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. The runner earns the weekly honor for the period of October 2 through October 8.
Andrew Kiplagat, a junior from Chebara, Kenya, is now earning his third SWAC award of the campaign – and his third in as many races overall for the Wildcats after arriving from Jackson State over the summer.
Last weekend in his most recent race, Kiplagat turned in a second place finish crossing in a new school-record fashion of 24:07.7 – shattering the previous school record held by Kiplagat from the season-opening UNF Invitational last month by more than 30 seconds. For Kiplagat, he was just one second back of winner Ryan Olree of Georgia on the day, after the Bulldogs performer ranked 24th nationally a season ago.
This week's SWAC Men's Newcomer of the Week was awarded to Jackson State's Malvin Boen.
Bethune-Cookman next competes in the 18th Annual Sand Shark Invitational hosted by USC Beaufort on Saturday, Oct. 11, in Hardeeville, South Carolina.
