The Auburn Tigers are coming off a season in which they finished 32-6 overall while attaining a 13-2 record on their home floor. The Tigers were the top team in the Southeastern Conference, which lead to an appearance in the NCAA tournament as top seed in the field. Auburn was eliminated in the Final Four by the eventual national champion Florida Gators.
Auburn will begin the new season under new leadership as longtime head coach Bruce Pearl stepped down from his position on September 22. The Tigers are now lead by his son Steven Pearl, who has been on his father's staff as an assistant coach since 2017. This will be his first experience as a head coach.
The Tigers will be lead by returning sophomore guard Tahaad Pettiford, who returned to Auburn following a season in which he averaged 11.6 points per game as reserve. He is joined by a transfer class that includes Keyshawn Hall (UCF) and KeShawn Murphy (Mississippi State) who both averaged in double figures for their respective teams.
This will mark the fourth meeting between the Wildcats and the Auburn Tigers. Auburn has won all of the previous meetings, with their last matchup coming in 2012.
