B-CU Falls in HBCU Hoops Opener

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Tan Brown scored 19 points for Edward Waters as the Tigers defeated the Bethune-Cookman 55-46 at the Wide World of Sports Complex.

Header How it Happened
1st Quarter
Edward Waters picked up an early 6-2 lead while playing strong defense against the Wildcats. The Tigers could not gain much separation though as the Wildcats fought to keep within one-possession.

Three-pointers by Alexandria Johnson and Shomari Phillips helped the Wildcats hang around despite shooting just 29.4% for the quarter. The period ended knotted up at 14 all.

2nd Quarter
The Wildcats shot 23.5% in the second, but were able to build a slight advantage going into halftime thanks to strong defense.

B-CU finished with six more shot attempts in the quarter, holding the Tigers to 3-for-11 from the floor and forcing five turnovers. The Cats led 26-22 at the break.

3rd Quarter
The third was dominated by the Tigers as they shot 53.8% from the field. Tan Brown took over for Edward Waters as she made four three-pointers in the third quarter alone.

Defensively, the Tigers forced seven B-CU turnovers and held the Wildcats to 25% shooting. Despite the halftime deficit, Edward Waters was able to take control of the game, leading 41-32 heading into the final frame.

4th Quarter
Neither team shot well in the fourth, scoring most of their points from the free-throw line. The Wildcats made all ten of their attempts from the charity stripe, but could not overcome the deficit as they made just 12.5% of their field-goal attempts in the quarter.

Edward Waters won 55-46, holding the lead over the Wildcats for the final 16:52 of the game.
