Bradley-Tse, Brady Shine for Cats in California

B-CU falls to Cal State Fullerton and Rutgers

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Alyssa Brady threw three scoreless innings in relief while Emma Bradley-Tse racked up four hits Friday afternoon for Bethune-Cookman Softball at the 2025 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic housed at Big League Dreams Complex in cathedral City, California. B-CU fell 5-1 to Cal State Fullerton in the morning, before dropping a 5-1 decision to Rutgers in the second game of two on the day for the Cats.
 
CAL STATE FULLERTON 5, B-CU 1
Three different Wildcats had a hit Friday morning as Bethune-Cookman suffered a 5-1 defeat to Cal State Fullerton in the opening game of day two action of the 2025 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic at Big League Dreams Complex in Cathedral City, California. The game was played on the Pawtucket Field.
 
Cal State Fullerton (10-4) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, pushing across a run in the opening inning when Ava Arce singled home Sarah Perez. Cal State Fullerton added single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to steadily build upon the lead.
 
Bethune-Cookman (4-11) had a big scoring opportunity in the home-half of the inning when leadoff hitter Joslynn Davis walked and Kendall Macauley singled, eventually putting runners at second and third with one out. Titans starting pitcher Leanna Garcia escaped the jam by inducing a pop-up and recording a strikeout to close the inning.
 
The Wildcats finally broke through in the seventh when Joyce Bloome reached on an error, stole second base, and later crossed off the end of an Emma Bradley-Tse RBI single, creating the final 5-1 score line.
 
Garcia (6-2) went the distance for the Titans in the pitcher's circle from the outset, striking out seven while working around five walks. She held Bethune-Cookman scoreless until the final frame when Bloome crossed the plate unearned.
 
The Titans collected 14 hits in the win, including a perfect 4-for-4 performance from left fielder Kristalyn Romulo. Alexia Lopez and Sophia Guevara each tripled, while Arce, Lopez, and Guevara all doubled.
 
Wildcats starter right-hander Halyne Gonzalez (3-8) absorbed the loss, surrendering five earned runs on 13 hits over six innings. Sofia Vallejos-Coleman provided a scoreless seventh inning in relief.
 
Molly Blackwood anchored the infield defense with six putouts at first base. The offense received hits from Bradley-Tse, Macauley and catcher Thais Uyema. Davis showed her speed on the basepaths, drawing three walks and stealing her fourth base of the season.
 
RUTGERS 5, B-CU 1
Bethune-Cookman's Emma Bradley-Tse finished 3-for-4 at the dish while Alyssa Brady threw three scoreless innings of relief softball Friday afternoon with B-CU falling to Rutgers, 5-1 in the 2025 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic housed at Big League Dreams Complex in cathedral City, California. The game was played on the Pawtucket Field.
 
Left fielder Emma Bradley-Tse led Bethune-Cookman's offensive effort, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Bradley-Tse crossed the plate in the bottom of the seventh when Jessica Alaan delivered an RBI single to right field, preventing the shutout.
 
Rutgers (6-8) opened the game's scoring in the first inning when Hailey Stripling scored on LA Matthews' sacrifice fly. The Scarlet Knights extended their advantage with two runs in the top-half of the third inning, as Kelly Gaelen and Bailey Briggs both came around to score.
 
The Scarlet Knights added two more runs in the fourth on back-to-back triples from Siera Hoekstra and Adie Osborne, followed by an RBI single from Stripling.
 
Bethune-Cookman (4-12) threatened multiple times, loading the bases in the third inning and putting runners in scoring position in the fourth and sixth frames, but couldn't break through until the final inning. In all, the Wildcats stranded 11 runners on base throughout the contest.
 
In the home-half of the seventh, a Jessica Alaan RBI single to right scored Bradley-Tse after the Canadian led off the at-bat with a single of her own.
 
Rutgers starting pitcher Ella Harrison struck out eight batters in 4.2 scoreless innings. She would earn the win working 4.2 scoreless innings, scattering four hits and striking out eight batters. The Cats were limited to six hits against Harrison and reliever Dezaria Johnson, who earned her first save of the season despite allowing the seventh-inning run.
 
Bethune-Cookman starter Sofia Vallejos-Coleman (0-2) took the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits over 3.1 innings. Alyssa Brady provided solid relief, holding Rutgers scoreless on just one hit over the final 3.2 innings.
 
Stripling and Briggs each delivered multiple hits in the contest for Rutgers.
 
Bradley-Tse led Bethune-Cookman's offensive effort, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Joslynn Davis added a hit for the Wildcats, while Kendall Macauley worked two walks. Shanai Owens also contributed with a walk and a stolen base.
 
The Cats conclude the Mary Nutter Classic on Saturday with a matchup against Fresno State at 12:30 p.m. PT (3:30 p.m. ET).
