BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Molly Blackwood of Bethune-Cookman Softball has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Co-Newcomer of the Week for the period of March 20-26, announced Thursday afternoon by the league office from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
Â
Molly Blackwood, a 5-foot-8 freshman from Lutz, Florida, went 3-for-3 in the series against in-state and league foe Florida A&M, including slapping in a three-run game-tying double in the bottom of the sixth inning in the rubber game of the series. Blackwood eventually scored the game-winning run one batter later, allowing the Wildcats to take the series.
Â
Throughout five games last week for B-CU – including a doubleheader split with nonconference opponent Bryant, Blackwood batted .750 with a 1.000 slugging average. She accumulated four RBIs with a run scored as well.
Â
Jaibriel Terrell of Alabama State was named the other Co-Newcomer of the Week. Pitcher of the Week award went to Kayla Adams of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. And it was Alabama State's Alana Scott named Hitter of the Week.
