BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off a series sweep of Mississippi Valley State, Bethune-Cookman Softball collected a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) weekly awards announced Wednesday afternoon with
Halyne Gonzalez being named SWAC Co-Pitcher of the Week along with
Emma Bradley-Tse tabbed SWAC Co-Newcomer of the Week. The announcement came from the league office headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
Halyne Gonzalez, a senior pitcher from Norwalk, California, threw a complete-game, one-hitter in the series opening win at home to Mississippi Valley State. San alum of La Mirada High, the right-hander produced a shutout, walking two and striking out six batters versus the Delta Devilettes. In all, it was her second shutout win of the campaign, as the Wildcats claimed the 8-0 decision in five innings (run-rule decision). She was the first of two Wildcats to register shutout wins from MVSU on the weekend, respectfully.
Emma Bradley-Tse, a junior outfielder playing primarily in left field for the Maroon and Gold, used a .625 batting average last week as B-CU swept MVSU at Sunnyland Park. Across the series, the Canadian had five hits in eight official at-bats, scoring six runs, in addition to recording a team-high tying four RBIs. On the base path, she was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases for the Wildcats. In the second game of the series, Bradley-Tse pounded out three hits in three at-bats, scoring three runs and delivering three RBIs, respectively.
B-CU travels to SWAC Eastern Division opponent Alabama Statt this weekend in Montgomery, Alabama. The series kicks off Friday, March 28, at 6 p.m. ET (5 p.m. CT).
