Cats Open Conference Action Against Florida A&M

DAYTONA BEACH - Bethune-Cookman is set to begin SWAC play tomorrow afternoon as they take on Florida A&M at Moore Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. as the Wildcats look to get off to a fast start in the conference against a heated rival.

1st Quarter
Jacksonville (8-3) doubled the scoring output of Bethune-Cookman (2-11) in the first, using a 12-6 rebounding advantage to create extra opportunities.

B-CU hit two of their four three-point attempts, but otherwise struggled to generate an offensive rhythm. The Dolphins led 24-12 heading into the second. 

2nd Quarter
The second quarter was dominated by JU. The Dolphins scored 30 points in the period on 56.3% shooting from the floor. They were also able to get to the line 11 times, making each of those attempts.

The Wildcats struggled with ball control, committing eight turnovers which contributed to the 30 points off turnovers the Dolphins accumulated in the first half. The result was a 30-point lead for JU at the break.

3rd Quarter
B-CU's offensive struggles continued into the third, as they committed six more turnovers and converted on just 26.7% of their shot attempts.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins shot 43.8%, increasing their lead to 37 and putting the game out of reach.

4th Quarter
The Wildcats shot under 30% again in the fourth, but were able to hit four of their seven three-point attempts.

Jacksonville shot 47.1% and in route to completing a convincing 95-53 win.

Scouting the Opponent In-Story Header
Florida A&M finished with a 1-10 record in their non-conference slate, most recently picking up their first win of the season against Southeastern University. The Rattlers are 0-7 on the road.

Among those that have appeared in every game this season, Shaniyah McCarthy leads Florida A&M in scoring at 10.5 per game. Camille Jackson is averaging over 14 per game but has appeared in just three games thus far. Jackson would also lead the team in rebounding at 6.0 per contest.

The Rattlers rank toward the bottom in all offensive categories and have struggled to rebound.


History In-Story Header
Saturday's game will mark a milestone in the rivarly as it is the 100th matchup between B-CU and FAMU. The Rattlers lead the series 56-43, but the Wildcats have won 20 of the last 25 meetings.
