DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Alcorn's Nakia Cheatham scored 12 points and finished one rebound shy of a double-double, helping the Braves hold off the Wildcats 56-51 at Moore Gymnasium.

1st Quarter
Bethune-Cookman (3-16, 1-5) struggled to find their footing offensively in the first, allowing Alcorn State (8-9, 5-1) to take control of the game early on.
The Wildcats shot 3-of-12 in the quarter with eight turnovers, allowing the Braves to generate five more shot attempts than B-CU.
Nakia Cheatham got off to a strong start, scoring eight points including two three-pointers made. Alcorn led 13-7 heading into the second.
2nd Quarter
The Wildcats were unable to make up any ground in the second as the lead remained at seven.
Alcorn forced six more B--CU turnovers and grabbed six offensive rebounds, leading to eight extra shot attempts, but they struggled to take advantage, shooting just 27.8%.
Tyler Butler finished with nine points in the quarter alone.
3rd Quarter
B-CU was able to remain within striking distance, holding the Braves to 37.5% shooting in the third.
The Wildcats shot 50% with only three turnovers but were out-rebounded 12-6.
4th Quarter
The Cats continued to chip away, cutting the deficit to three following a Kailyn Peters three-pointer with 8:14 remaining. But Alcorn was able to make enough plays down the stretch to close out the win.
Alcorn was able to hold of the Wildcats' comeback despite just eight shot attempts and an 11-6 B-CU rebound advantage. The Braves made 11 of their 17 free-throw attempts as the Cats were forced to foul to keep the game alive.

- Daimoni Dorsey had 11 points.
- Nakia Cheatham was the only Brave to score in double figures (12).
- B-CU finished with 24 turnovers compared to just 13 for Alcorn State.
- The Braves won despite shooting just 6-of-26 (23%) from three-point range and 32% overall.
The Wildcats take on the Jackson State Tigers on Saturday afternoon to begin the double-header. The game is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. EST.
