Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bethune-Cookman Wins Fifth Straight

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - B-CU overcame a 14-point first-half deficit to beat the Alabama State Hornets 69-54 at the Dunn Oliver-Acadome. The win is the Wildcat's fifth in a row, and they remain undefeated on the road in SWAC play.
Header How it Happened
1st Half
Bethune-Cookman (10-11, 7-1) fell behind early on as they struggled to generate an offensive rhythm. Following a layup by Doctor Bradley off an Alabama State (6-15, 3-5) turnover, the Hornets went on an 11-0 run to take a 20-6 lead with 10:17 remaining.

The Wildcats would immediately respond with a 10-0 run to cut the lead to just four. And with 2:46 remaining, Ariel Bland made a layup to tie the game at 22.

B-CU could not take the lead, but were able to keep the game tied at the half 29-29.

The Wildcats received a balanced scoring effort in the first, with eight players recording at least two points. As a team, they shot 41.7% but went 0-for-5 from three-point range.

Tyler Byrd led all scorers with 13 points. The Hornets shot just 34.4% from the field and 23.1% from three.

2nd Half
Bethune-Cookman took its first lead of the game at the 16:54 mark of the second half off a layup by Doctor Bradley. Micah Simpson would hit a three-pointer to retake the lead for ASU soon after, but the Wildcats would take control of the game from then on.

B-CU went on a dominant stretch that included a 16-0 scoring run. The lead increased to 17 with 7:45 remaining after a Seneca Willoughby three-pointer. Alabama State attempted a comeback, decreasing the lead to 11, but there simply wasn't enough time left and the Cats were able to close out the win.

Jakobi Heady and Doctor Bradley lead the way for the Wildcats in the second half, scoring 12 points and 10 points, respectively. B-CU shot 57.7% from the field and 57.1% (4-of-7) from downtown.

Following a hot first half, the Wildcats held Tyler Byrd to zero points in the second. Micah Simpson scored 11 points to lead the Hornets, but as a team, they shot just 41.7%.
