B-CU Drops High-Scoring Game to Grand Canyon

PHOENIX  – Quentin Heady and Connor Teasley led the way for the Wildcats with 15 points each, but they were unable to overcome a strong offensive showing from Grand Canyon, losing 99-81 at Global Credit Union Arena.

.Header How it Happened

1st Half
Grand Canyon (2-0) got off to an early lead on a 7-0 scoring run manufacture by Makaih Williams. He score all seven points and gave the Antelopes the lead that they would hold onto for the rest of the game.

The advantage would continue to grow for GCU, as they were able to go up by as many as 18. However, as has been the case in all three games this season, the Wildcats showed tremendous fight to get back within striking distance.

After the lead was increased to 36-18, B-CU would outscore the Antelopes by five over the final eight minutes to get back within 13 at the break.

Overall, the Wildcats were excellent offensively in the first, shooting 54.2% from the field, 42.9% from three, and 73.9% from the free-throw line on 19 attempts.

Quentin Heady was the catalyst, with 13 points aided by nine trips to the free-throw line.

Turnovers were a big difference though, as the Antelopes had just four compared to 12 by the Wildcats.

2nd Half
The Wildcats worked hard to chip away, and quickly got the deficit within single digits at 15:51 mark.

Grand Canyon rebounded quickly to build the lead back up, but B-CU again battled to cut it to eight with a converted and-one by Jameel Morris to make it 74-68.

Bethune-Cookman was unable to get any closer though, as Grand Canyon stayed hot offensively to halt any further comeback.

Jaden Henley led the way for GCU, scoring 19 second half points on an efficient 5-of-6 from the floor. As a team, the Antelopes shot 48% and went 16-for-20 from the charity stripe.

Daniel Perez-Rouzan carried the load for B-CU in the second, with 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting. The Wildcats also received strong contributions from Morris and Connor Teasley.
