Cats Sweep Double-Header for Series Win Over Delta Devils

ITTA BENA, Miss. – Bethune-Cookman softball allowed just four runs during a double-header sweep of Mississippi Valley State at MVSU Softball Field. The back-to-back victories clinches the series for the Wildcats while pushing the team's conference record back over .500.

Header How it Happened

Game 1: B-CU 13, MVSU 2

Bethune-Cookman (12-24, 8-6) wasted no time in putting runs on the board as they took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Emma Bradley-Tse led off with a walk and later scored on an RBI double by Janel Morrisey. Zariah Billinger later scored on a wild pitch and Jasmine Manebo picked up an RBI base hit.

The Wildcats continued the onslaught in the second. Manebo picked up her second RBI of the game on another base hit, and Emma Bradley-Tse recorded an RBI double. She would eventually score on a steal attempt followed by an RBI groundout by Billinger later in the inning to push the lead to 8-0.

Mississippi Valley State (1-26, 0-14) picked up its first run of the series in the fourth. After a leadoff triple, Michelle Diaz hit an RBI groundout to second base to make it 8-1.

B-CU scored two more runs in the bottom of the frame, with Morrisey managing her second RBI double of the game. In the sixth, Kween Tauala collected a two RBI triple for the team's twelfth and thirteenth runs of the game.

Sofia Coleman picked up the win in game one, pitching a complete game while allowing just earned runs.

Game 2: B-CU 5, MVSU 2

Both offenses got off to a slow start in game two, with the first hit of the game coming in the third inning.

The Wildcats were finally struck first in the fourth. Mia'Lani Mayo drove in a run on an RBI groundout to give B-CU the 1-0 advantage.

Bethune-Cookman added to its lead in the fifth. Alana Cypress grabbed an RBI base hit and Jasmine Manebo recorded an two-RBI triple to increase the lead to 4-0.

MVSU attempted to mount a comeback in the fifth. Michelle Diaz managed an RBI single and the Devils collected another run on an error to cut the deficit to two.
