BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mia Gonzalez was named SWAC Newcomer of the Week, the Southwestern Athletic Conference announced from its headquarters in Birmingham.

This is the second straight Newcomer of the Week award for Bethune-Cookman and the second weekly award of the season for Gonzalez.

Gonzalez played a huge role in shutting down the JSU offense in a huge series victory over the Tigers. The freshman pitched in all three games, totaling 11.2 innings. She allowed just four earned runs while picking up the win in two of the three contests. The freshman also got the final out in game two for her second career save.

B-CU softball will take the field again on Friday for an important road series against Alabama State. Game one will begin at 6 p.m. EST followed by a double header on Saturday.
