BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Bethune-Cookman shortstop Janel Morrisey has been recognized as this week's SWAC Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.

This is the first weekly award for Morrisey and the second for the Wildcats overall this season.

The freshman had a dominant series in a road sweep over Mississippi Valley State. She finished 8-for-13 including a walk, three doubles, a triple, and six RBI. She was also impactful on the bases, scoring seven runs and going a perfect 5-for-5 on stolen bases.

The Wildcats continue conference play this weekend at home against Jackson State. First pitch of the series is set for 5 p.m. Friday from Sunnyland Park.
