Appeared in nine games as a freshman, all out of the bullpen for the Wildcats… Recorded a 5.73 ERA on the campaign… Tossed 11.0 innings on the year… Struck out six batters against nine walks… Fanned a season-high two batters in one inning of work against Jacksonville (March 10), allowing a run on one hit and a walk… Worked a season-high 2.1 innings in a 3-2 win over FIU (March 24)… Did not surrender a run, allowing three hits and walking one batter… Worked an inning at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships in the title series against Florida A&M (May 16)… Struck out one batter and walked one…

Pembroke Pines Charter HS
Played for head coach Carlos Iglesias at Pembroke Pines Charter High School… Pitched for three years in high school… Helped team to a 9-5 record as a senior… Played in 10 games with eight starts in 2014… Earned an ERA of 2.12 with a 5-2 record on the campaign… Struck out 57 batters… Registered two complete games and a save… Team finished first in the district in 2014, while taking second place in 2012 and ’13… Helped team to the regional final in 2014… Voted team captain as a senior… Picked up his best game with 2 strikeouts in five innings during the 2014 season-opener…

Son of Lorena and Orestes Melgarejo… Has a younger sibling, Nikki (16)… Also enjoys cooking… His favorite sports memory is playing in the district championship, closing out the game and dogpiling on the mound… A superstition is that he always tapes his right big toe before putting on his socks before games… Favorite magazine is Sports Illustrated… Favorite music group is The Temptations… Lists his favorite food as pasta with alfredo sauce and bacon… Says the biggest influences in his life have been his mother and father…
