Biography

Andy Hinson is one of several products of the Bethune-Cookman program to enjoy success as a player and a coach.

A teammate of Lloyd “Tank” Johnson and Jack “Cy” McClairen, Hinson played on the famed 1952 SIAC championship team.  A two-year team captain, he was also named to the SIAC All-Conference team as a sophomore and senior. He capped off his career by being named a Little College All American in 1953.

After compiling 154 wins as a high school in Florida and New Jersey, Hinson returned to his alma mater in 1976, where he led the Wildcats to an SIAC championship and a 34-0 victory over Florida A&M that still stands as the Wildcats’ largest margin of victory in the series. The Wildcats had a record of 24-9-1 during his three years as head coach.

Hinson concluded his coaching career at Cheyney State, where he is also a member of that school’s Hall of Fame.
