Garon Jackson

 Garon Jackson enters his ninth season at Bethune-Cookman as an assistant coach for Track And Field and Cross Country.
 
As the Long Sprints/ Distance coach, his coaching duties include training and developing workouts for sprints, mid-distances and cross country teams. As an administrator, he manages team travel, practice/ participation logs, meet management, scheduling meets, as well as recruiting academically and athletically qualified students.
 
“In my years at Bethune-Cookman University, I’ve had the honor of working alongside Garon Jackson and being of part of five Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference [Three outdoor, two indoor] had e championships,” said B-CU Head Coach Donald Cooper. “He has helped transform both the women’s and men’s teams from a last-place team to the best teams in our great conference.”
 
Jackson came to Bethune-Cookman after five years as head coach  at Voorhees College in Denmark, S.C. – his alma mater. A Palmetto state native, Jackson was also an accomplished athlete in his own career  as an NAIA National Qualifier in the 800 and 1500 after wrapping his prep career as a High School State Champion in the 800 and 1600.

Jackson still holds the Voorhees and Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (EIAA) conference records in the 800, 1500, 5000, and 10000 meters in addition to cross country records. He was the EIAC Most Valuable Runner for four years in cross country and three years in Track and Field, finishing undefeated at the EIAC Conference Championships throughout his entire collegiate career.

During his coaching stint, Jackson instilled success in a new generation of Voorhees athletes, producing eighteen NAIA National qualifiers - Jasper Fell (110 high hurdles), Shantell Smith (long, triple jump), Keisha Tulloch (200, 400), Brionca Walker (60 hurdles, 4x100 relay) and Josh Lomax (60, 100). While at Voorhees, his athletes earned five All-America nods - Shantell Jenkins (60, 100) and Quintin Bell (60 100, 200) with Jeffery Pendergrass winning the NAIA national championship in  the 200..

Off the track, Jackson’s student-athletes at Voorhees  had a 98 percent graduation rate, and 85 percent of his athletes went on to attend graduate school.

Jackson is a USA Track & Field (USATF) Level II Endurance Coach.
