Christopher Stokes, known affectionately by all around him as Harry, is now in his second full season as head coach of the Bethune-Cookman Women’s Golf program, as well as his third overall. He joined BCU in December 2021, coaching the team through two tournaments – including the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships in Flowood, Mississippi.
In his first full season in charge of the program, Stokes helped lower numerous individual scores for the Wildcats in his first recruiting class.
Along the way, he was instrumental in recruiting Skylar Kew, a highly-touted freshman from Canada.
During the 2022-23 campaign, Stokes helped the Cats to a first place showing in the SWAC Fall Invitational, as Kew tied teammate Kamary Leaf in third place overall in the field.
The Wildcats finished third at the SWAC Championships, once again housed in Flowood, Mississippi, but lowered their team score by over 100 overall. Additionally, senior Emma Hastie turned in a tie for fifth place finish and collecting a spot on the All-SWAC Team.
With walk-on Jordan Davis joining the team prior to the beginning of the season, Stokes helped the St. Petersburg, Florida native to registering four individual personal-best rounds in her last two tournaments.
The Wildcats also registered a first-place finish in The Starks Invite by Farmers, the second win for Stokes and the Wildcats in his BCU tenure. Hastie led the Wildcats in that event, followed by Kamary Leaf and Kew, respectively.
Stokes is a fourth generation professional. His uncle, Robert Schwab, is a golf pro in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; his grandfather Pat Schwab was the head coach at Jacksonville University and a long-time tour club professional and a member of the New Jersey PGA Hall of Fame. His great grandfather Harry Schwab won the 1953 Senior PGA Championship and was a long-time professional in Dayton, Ohio.
Stokes played on the Florida Professional Golf Tour, the North Florida PGA (NFPGA) section and Mid-Atlantic PGA (MAPGA) section. He has served as the PGA Associate Member/Assistant Golf Professional at Maryland Golf and Country Clubs in Bel Air, MD and Sugar Mill Country Club in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Stokes is a native of Towson, Maryland, where he attended Towson University.
