The Bethune-Cookman University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Jason Pompey as the new Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Services. Pompey brings over a decade of extensive experience in NCAA compliance to the Wildcats Athletic Department.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to join the Bethune-Cookman family," said Pompey. "I'm looking forward to working with not only the administration, coaches and staff, but also the student-athletes. Student-athletes here at Bethune-Cookman are some of the best in the world and we're going to ensure that this program continues to enhance their abilities and move them forward into the next phase of their lives. When they leave Bethune-Cookman we want the world to know that they're Bethune-Cookman Wildcats."

In his role as Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Services, Pompey will oversee the area of NCAA Compliance, ensuring Bethune-Cookman Athletics is in compliance with NCAA Division I and Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) ethical principles and core values; as well as ensuring that athletics academic programs are consistent with NCAA, SWAC and University policies, rules and regulations as well.

"We are thrilled to welcome Jason Pompey to the Bethune-Cookman family," said Theus, Athletic Director and Men’s Basketball Head Coach. "His background and expertise in navigating the complex landscape of NCAA rules, knowledge of the ever-evolving world of NIL and regulations will be an invaluable asset to our coaches, staff and student-athletes."

Pompey arrives at Bethune-Cookman after serving as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at McKendree University since August 2023. He was the sport oversight over baseball, men’s and women’s cross country/track and field, men’s and women’s rugby and women’s lacrosse. During his time with the Bearcats, Pompey onboarded the Athletics Department with their first ever compliance management software. Thirty-seven athletic programs and McKendree over 900 student-athletes utilized Teamworks Compliance & Recruiting for their daily compliance services.

Prior to McKendree, Pompey spent two years with Alcorn State University Athletics, beginning in December 2021 where he served as the Assistant Director of Compliance and Academic Services. He was promoted to Associate Athletic Director of Compliance and Academic Service in September 2022. Pompey has also led Alcorn’s Name, Image and Likeness program collaborating with NoCAP Sports to develop a NIL platform for the Braves. The 1871 Collective was created by the university alumni, supporters and friends of Alcorn State University under his watch which helped student-athletes get paid for participating in exclusive events, fan encounters, products and marketing activities.

"Jason's hiring is a significant win for our department and university," continued Theus. "His experience at the Division I level, combined with his passion for rules education and commitment to following proper procedures, makes him an ideal fit for this role."

A native of Queens, New York, Pompey earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Virginia Union in 2009. He went on to complete his Master of Science in Sports Management from Virginia State in 2010.
