ORANGEBURG, S.C. –
Ryan Jackson and
Jacki Smith each pounded out a pair of hits Sunday morning as Bethune-Cookman Softball completed a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series sweep of South Carolina State on the strength of an 8-0 win at Lady Bulldogs Field. Bethune-Cookman took both legs of a doubleheader Saturday with an 18-2 and 10-0 win, respectively.

Bethune-Cookman (24-23, 9-3 MEAC) stepped above the .500 mark on the campaign with Sunday's emphatic victory.

The Wildcats got on the board in the top-half of the second inning when senior
Bryanna Campos singled to left in order to drive across
Alexis Bermudez for the 1-0 lead.

In the third, sophomore outfielder
Ryan Jackson scored two with her single, allowing teammates
Jacki Smith and
Cheyenne Smith to score on the play.

After being held scoreless in the fourth, the Maroon and Gold struck for five runs in the top of the fifth inning to increase the lead at 7-0.

The first three batters of the inning reached safely for the Cats, concluding with Jackson single to cross senior
Mariah Davis who kicked off the frame with her infield single to the pitcher.
Jacki Smith would score on the next play following an error charged to South Carolina State (1-24, 1-8 MEAC) third baseman Quiana Hodge.

Kaiya Epps-Lee would add to the lead with her RBI single to center, scoring
Kailey Richard, before she eventually came around to score herself unearned on a Dezirae Rhodes passed ball.

The Wildcats forced the run-rule in the top of the sixth as
Cheyenne Smith would score on Jackson's RBI fielder's choice, completing the 8-0 score line in favor of the visitors.

The win was picked up by freshman left-hander
Victoria Guzman (7-6) as she worked 3.1 innings in the circle, not surrendering a single hit and striking out four batters with just two walks allowed. The save went to sophomore
Destiny Enriquez (2) in working 2.2 innings out of the bullpen, giving up a hit and fanning three batters.

The loss was taken by South Carolina State starting pitcher Jada Lake (1-13) as she went the distance in the circle and gave up eight runs (four earned) on nine hits and five walks, also picking up two strikeouts.

The BCU bats were led by
Jacki Smith and
Ryan Jackson with two hits each, the latter adding three RBIs.

Bethune-Cookman steps outside conference play Wednesday, April 18, as the Wildcats travel to Stetson for a game scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in DeLand, Florida.
