Coppin State University snapped a four-game losing streak on Wednesday night with a 61-38 victory over Bethune-Cookman College in the Coppin Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
B-CC (2-8, 0-2 MEAC) trailed 28-14 at the half in a game where the Wildcats missed numerous lay-ups and failed to convert at the foul line, finishing 3-of-9 at the charity stripe. They also shot just 21 percent (5-for-23) from the field.
Meanwhile, CSU (7-4, 2-0 MEAC) was determined to snap their losing skid as they used the power of Rashida Suber and Tanezia Harden to run out to a 40-18 lead on the strength of a 12-4 run to start the second half of play.
B-CC's Sierra McKnight hit a jumper from the left elbow to cut the lead under 20, but Suber abruptly went down to court and splashed one of her game-high three (3) three-point baskets to put the Lady Eagles back up by 22. The lead would never slip under a 20-point margin again in the contest.
The Lady Eagles of CSU scored 21 points off 23 Wildcat turnovers on the night. They also used their extremely dominant bench to outscore the `Cats 16-6 in that phase of the game.
CSU was led on the night by Suber and her game-high 15 points. Shalamar Oakley also scored in double-figures with 12 points, three rebounds and five assists.
B-CC was led on the night by McKnight, a walk-on for the Wildcats, with a season-high 12 points and two rebounds. Behind her was Sabrina Boykin with six points, but also five turnovers from her point guard position. Cassandra Calcagno led all players on the night with a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Wildcats will look to snap their current four-game losing skid on Saturday (Jan. 6) as they host Hampton University at Moore Gymnasium in Daytona Beach at 2 p.m.
