Bethune-Cookman Claims Hall of Fame HBCU Classic Golf Title

Sept. 28, 2007

Atlanta, Ga. - The Bethune-Cookman University men's golf team shot a combined 20-under par over the course of three days to claim top honors at the 2007 Hall of Fame Black College Golf Classic in Atlanta, Ga. The three-round tournament featured teams from around Division I and II throughout the HBCU world of men's golf.

Senior Carl Corbin won the individual title over the weekend as he shot a magnificent 10-under par for the event. Corbin has been one of the most solid golfers for B-CU since 2005, and he looks to continue that trend through two events thus far on the early fall season for the `Cats.

But he was given chase close by sophomore Willie Mack III. Mack shot a 9-under for the tournament as he has truly proven to be one of the best up-and-coming golfers in the nation.

"Those two guys are great golfers," exclaimed B-CU head coach Gary Freeman. "If one of them is on, then we have a shot to win any tournament. But if they are both on, as well as the other guys playing the way I know they can, we are going to be a tough team to beat."

Sean Edey played well for the champion Wildcats as well with a 1-under par over the weekend. Edey, as stated last weekend, is returning from an injury that kept him out for the duration of the 2006-07 campaign.

Also playing well for the `Cats was Chris Dunn who posted an even-par score for the tournament, as well as Juan Ronderos with a 5-over par score. For Dunn, this was his first even or under-par round since the 2006 HBCU Fall Classic back on Sept. 28-29. In that tournament, Dunn collected a 6-under score.

The `Cats will be back in action again next weekend when they travel to the Mission Inn Invitational hosted by St. John's University in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. The event will take place on Oct. 5 and run through Oct. 7. For directions and information on the event, please contact the B-CU Office of Sports Information at (386) 481-2206.
