Final Stats
Orlando, Fla. -
The Citadel held off Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday night by a count of 3-1 in a non-conference volleyball affair at the New UCF Arena on the campus of UCF in Orlando, Fla. The Bulldogs defeated the Wildcats on scores of 30-23, 30-22, 24-30 and 30-28.
Despite a tough match, B-CU junior Reina Carson led all with a career-high 16 kills and season-high nine digs. Carson was all over the court for the Wildcats.
The Bulldogs of The Citadel (4-18) took the first two games despite committing 13 errors in the two games combined. However, Bethune-Cookman (4-9) didn't help their own cause as the Wildcats committed 13 errors alone in the second game to allow the Bulldogs the wins.
B-CU fought back in the third game behind the efforts of Carson and senior Keisha Vicks--who has jumped out of her offensive shell to become a threat for the `Cats this year.
Although they committed 10 errors in the third game, B-CU used six of Vicks' 15 kills in the match--as well as nine errors from The Citadel to earn the win.
The Citadel was too much in the last game as the efforts of leaders Rachel Sanders and Blaine McAllister were heavy in the Bulldogs favor.
The Citadel was led on the night by Sanders' match-high 20 kills, while both McAllister (14 kills / 12 digs) and Caitlin Vyborny (15 kills / 20 digs) collected double-double outings for the Bulldogs.
B-CU was led in the match by Carson's 16 kills, while Vicks' 15 kills were the only other two players in double figures. Shakhea Moore-Hagins added a team-high 4 digs on defense for the `Cats.
The Wildcats get back to action this Friday when they venture back into conference waters against North Carolina A&T at 7 p.m. in a match held at Moore Gymnasium on the campus of B-CU. Admission is absolutely free!
