DeBary, Fla. - The Wildcats women's golf team of Bethune-Cookman University ran away with towards a 15-stroke advantage in the DeBary Women's Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on Monday at the DeBary Golf Course in DeBary, Fla.

Freshman Kimberly Wong continued to do what she does best over the weekend as she fired a two-day total of 146 (75 / 71) to earn top honors for the event. Wong's 2-over par score was one shot better than Winthrop's Jutta Degerman who was tied for the lead after the first round on Sunday.

Senior Becky Dowell was another force to be reckoned with for the Fighting Wildcats as she posted a fifth place finish with a 154 (75 / 79) as she finished 10-over par. Dowell's top five finish was the second of that category for her in the fall campaign.

B-CU led by four strokes over nearby Stetson University after Sunday's event, thanks in part to the play of Dowell and Wong.

But as all good teams will tell you, it is a TEAM that makes golf the sport in college that it is.

The other two notable Wildcat golfers that contributed heavily were Emma Tayler with a 155 (76 / 79) to claim a tie for eighth place. Junior Fern Grimshaw scored a 156 (77 / 79) to post back-to-back Top 10 finishes in the fall. Grimshaw was a Top 10 member in the Rutgers Invitational three weeks ago.

For Tayler, Monday marked the fourth consecutive Top 10 finish of the fall campaign for her, individually. As for Wong, she has now collected four consecutive Top 5 finishes on the season, and owns a record of 268-9 on the year. Tayler's record of 257-20 is equally as impressive for the two newcomer Wildcat golfers.

Maria Garrido shot a two-day score of 171 as she was 27-over par for the course.

McNeese State finished second for the tournament with a score of 626 as they were +50 overall. Stetson was tied with the Cowboys of McNeese State as, ironically, it was the Cowboys (McNeese State) and Hatters (Stetson) going hand-in-hand for second place.

Fellow Daytona Beach native Embry-Riddle and Jacksonville scored 634 over the course of two days to tie each other for fourth place.

Stetson's Danielle Jackson was in third place, individually, with a score of 149, while McNeese State's Maggie Welch was sitting beside her for third place as well. Lauren Darnell (Stetson) and Lacy McKinley (McNeese State) both tied Dowell in the fifth place position.

For B-CU, they have now won three tournaments in the fall season, and look to make it one of the best fall campaigns in school history when they travel to Stetson for a tournament in the coming weeks.
