Daytona Beach, Fla. -
With his name not being called on the two days of the NFL [National Football League] Draft this past weekend, wide receiver/A-Back Eric Weems has signed a free agency contract to enter the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons.
The former Wildcat was a stand-out wide receiver at Bethune-Cookman, and leaves with his name in numerous Top-10 categories throughout his four-year career. This past season (2006), the local Seabreeze High School alum added special teams to his portfolio, serving as the kickoff and punt return specialist for the Wildcats.
Weems will look to join two fellow Bethune-Cookman alums in the NFL this summer when he reports to camps in Atlanta. Rashean Mathis (Jacksonville) and Nick Collins (Green Bay) were the last two Wildcats taken in the NFL Draft through the NFL in 2004 and 2005, respectively.
Fellow Wildcats Ramon McCullough and Taurean Charles look to make a decision on their NFL free agency possibilities later in the week, having received several calls from multiple teams.
