Sunset Beach, N.C. - Bethune-Cookman men's golf jumped out to an impressive showing over the weekend as they debuted the 2007 campaign with a 855 score (-9) for a third place finish in the Sea Trail Men's Intercollegiate at the Sea Trail Plantation Golf Course in Sunset Beach, N.C.

The Wildcats were stellar all weekend, and looked were poised for a second place finish on the second day of the tournament. That's when the Wildcats seemed to have some problems with the last few holes with high scores to fall to third in the event.

Sophomore newcomer Willie Mack III served as the best golfer for the event in B-CU colors as he fired a three-day total of 208 (-8) as he posted rounds of 69, 68 and 71. That allowed Mack to walk away with a medal for the Wildcats.

Behind him, also finishing in the Top 20 was senior Carl Corbin with a score of 214 (-2) to finish under-par. He shot rounds of 70, 74 and 70 with a tough break at the back of his round on Saturday. Corbin's tie for 18th was alongside several other golfers, most notably teammate Sean Edey.

Edey, who did not participate for the Wildcats last year (2006-07) due to an injured wrist, was back in rare form as he participated in his first event since May 2006. He also finished at 2-under with round-performances of 68, 74 and 72, respectively.

"It was nice to get the big man Sean Edey back out there, and his game is only going to make us better as a team this year," stated B-CU head coach Gary Freeman.

Rounding out the scoring for the `Cats was Dan Venema (219) and Chris Dunn (229). Venema fired rounds of 73, 75 and 71. As for Dunn, he was present with a performance of 78, 75 and 76.

Elon University took home the prize for the tournament with an amazing 36-under par score (828), while Murray State finished in second place (846) with 9-under as a team.

The top honor, however, was collected by USC-Upstate's Josh Gallman with a total score of 206 (-10), and Elon's Phil Bartholomew shot a 207 (-9). Tying with B-CU's Mack in third place was Casey Johnson (Appalachian State).

"I think the guy's performed really well this weekend, and Willie [Mack] was a big part of that," admitted Coach Freeman. "This is making the others guys step up like Carl [Corbin] and Dan Venema."

B-CU will get back to action again on Sept. 26-28 when they travel to the Browns Mill Golf Course in a tournament hosted by Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga. For up-to-date information, please stay tuned to the B-CU athletic website at www.BCCathletics.com.
