DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman Volleyball earned its first conference victory Sunday afternoon, in the conference opener with South Carolina State at Moore Gymnasium.
South Carolina State came out strong, winning the first set 25-23, but B-CU fired back with two consecutive wins (25-22, 25-17) to keep the match going. The fourth game was full of lead changes and momentum swings with SCSU winning (27-25) to force a fifth game. In the tiebreaker set, the Lady Wildcats took a quick lead and gained momentum to end the match with a 15-10 victory.
Jarne Gleaton of SCSU led all players with 23 kills. Setter Bria Brimmer had 47 assists.
Leading Bethune-Cookman was Chelle Ticeson with 17 kills, followed closely by Danielle Goodrum, who finished with 13 kills. Both hit important shots at crucial times to ensure a B-CU victory. Setter Daryl Rodriguez finished with 48 assists on the match.
Bethune-Cookman Volleyball returns to action Monday, Oct. 6, hosting Norfolk State at 7 p.m.
