Homecoming 2008 Parking Procedures Announced
Bethune-Cookman University announced the Municipal Stadium parking procedures after a series of joint meetings with the City of Daytona Beach, Daytona Beach Police Department, community and alumni leaders who are excited about Homecoming 2008 set for Saturday, October 11, 2008 as the "Fighting Wildcats" play host to the Delaware State University "Hornets" at 4 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
"Our plans call for the opening of the parking lots for tailgating to begin at 8:00 a.m. on game-day to accommodate the fans who have expressed an interest in the festivities. The interest in tailgating at our games is virtually exploding and we want to make sure that our fans have the chance to enjoy the game day atmosphere at the stadium," said Lynn W. Thompson, B-CU director of athletics.
Additional new plans call for the use of the newly completed Father Lopez High School as an overflow parking area that will be used once the stadium lots are at full capacity. Daytona Beach Police officers have been instructed to divert traffic to the high school once the stadium lots are full. No tailgating will be allowed at Father Lopez High School.
This new arrangement replaces the Park and Ride program that was in existence for the past several years with the use of the LPGA golf course parking as alternative parking sites.
"We feel that our fans will be more comfortable utilizing overflow parking directly across from the stadium. Fan trams will be consistently running to shuttle fans from the stadium parking area to the ticket gates thanks to our partners at Daytona International Speedway", said Thompson.
Parking for the game is being sold in advance at the B-CU ticket office located at the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center at a cost of $15 per car. Larger RV's will be charged $30 at the stadium entrance. Game tickets are also on sale at the ticket office and at the stadium box office on game day beginning at 1:30 pm.
