The Wildcats beat Hampton 17-6 -Coach Wyatt sets the B-CU all-time wins mark with 84.

 

FIRST QUARTER

 

The Wildcat defense was tested early when Corey Council fumbled on the opening kickoff return giving the Pirates the ball on the B-CU 25. Travis Roland's QB sack ended the first drive of the game and Hampton punted.

 

Senior QB McKinson Souverain hit Jeff Pope on a 53-yard pass play to get the Wildcats out from their own end zone midway through the first quarter. The Pirates drove the ball seventy yards and kicked a 20-yard field goal with 19 seconds remaining to lead 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. Roland again made the key defensive stop with a two yard tackle for loss with the ball on the B-CU one yard line

Souverain ran “Wyattbone” left for a 26 yard run on the final play of the first quarter down to the Hampton 32 yard line.

 

SECOND QUARTER

 

Souverain rushing and B-CU defense – key the 'Cats in second quarter

Souverain averted four tackles and rushed 29 yards on a third and 20 play to keep B-CU's first scoring drive alive. Brian Sumlar rushed one yard for a touchdown capping an 80 yard/8 play drive with 12:50 to play in the first half to give the Wildcats a 7-3 lead.

 

The B-CU defense stopped the Pirates twice inside the ten yard line and Hampton kicked another 20 yard field goal making the score 7-6 with 9:24 remaining in the second quarter. Roland had two more tackles for losses to key the defense.

THIRD QUARTER

Defense comes up with stop after stop – Cat's lead 14-6 into the fourth quarter

The Pirates came out with a 50 yard drive to start the third quarter but again the “Cats defense held and HU missed a 29 yard field goal.

 

Brian Sumlar's 23 yard run to open B-CU's first drive in the second half – was the key play of the 7 play drive ending with freshman placekicker Matt McCutcheon, short on a 45-yard field attempt with 8:23 remaining.

 

Junior QB Matthew Johnson threw for two first down passes and RB Sumlar had a 38 yard run down to the 8 yard line. On the next play, Souverain ran eight yards around right end for a touchdown, giving the Wildcats a 14-6 advantage with 4:08 to play.

 

Dexter Jackson's quarterback sack for a loss of 13 yards ended the final Pirate drive in the third quarter – on downs at the B-CU 40.

 

FOURTH QUARTER

B-CU QB Johnson fumbled while scrambling on the second play of the fourth quarter and Hampton recovered and started a drive at midfield with 14:10 to play in the game.

 

The Wildcats' DB Arkee Smith intercepted a Pirate pass and ran it back 20 yards with 12:29 to play to thwart another Hampton drive.

 

Seven plays later,  Matt McCutcheon kicked a 36 yard field goal with 9:16 to play, B-CU upped its lead to 17-6.

 

Two QB sacks by Jr. DL Dexter Jackson in the second half keyed the defense who totaled 6 sacks in the ball game for 56 yards in losses.

 

A Justin Keable punt was downed at the one yard line with 2:17 to play, pinning the Pirates deep in their own territory and the defense held on downs again for the hard-earned 17-6 win.
