Hiram Burgos Named MEAC Pitcher of the Week

April 21, 2008

Virginia Beach, Va. - Bethune-Cookman University baseball player Hiram Burgos has been selected as this week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Pitcher of the Week as announced on Monday by the conference office in Virginia Beach, Va.

For Burgos, a 5-11 junior from Cayey, P.R., this marks the second time in as many weeks that he has been selected as MEAC Pitcher of the Week. This is also the third time in as many weeks that B-CU has posted a Pitcher of the Week honor within the league. Eric Thomas earned the award two weeks prior.

On the week, Burgos saw action in one game against conference opponent Coppin State as he went five strong innings on the mound for the Maroon and Gold. He helped to keep his own record as well as the Wildcats conference record clean in a 9-1 decision. Burgos allowed one earned run on six hits while fanning four batters. Once again, Burgos did not allow a single walk for the second consecutive week.

Player of the Week honors this week went to Darryl Evans of Florida A&M who hit for the cycle with a 4-for-4 at-bat day in the second game of a doubleheader against Maryland Eastern Shore. Rookie of the Week honors went to Coppin State catcher Patrick Regalado who was 7-for-16 on the week including a homerun for the Eagles against Bethune-Cookman.
