Wildcat grabs ABCA All-Region accolades

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Andrey Martinez of Bethune-Cookman Baseball has been named to the 2025 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Region (Southeast) Second Team announced Tuesday from the ABCA home office in Greensboro, North Carolina. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.

Martinez, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound junior from Barranquilla, Colombia, was instrumental in helping Bethune-Cookman claim its first-ever Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular season and tournament title in 2025, as the Wildcats earned an appearance in the NCAA Tallahassee [Fla.] Regional hosted by Florida State. It was the first postseason appearance for the Cats since 2017.

The Chair of the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee is Brian Green of Wichita State. The committee also includes Mitch Canham (Oregon State), Chris Curry (Little Rock), Dean Ehehalt (Monmouth), Jeff Mercer (Indiana), Brian O'Connor (Mississippi State), Jim Penders (UConn), and Butch Thompson (Auburn).

The hard-swinging first baseman also played third base, while tying the B-CU record for single-season home runs (20), matching Peter O'Brien from 2010 – also leading the league in that category. He finished the year third on the team in batting average (.353), allowing him to be named SWAC Co-Hitter of the Year and pick up a spot on the All-SWAC First Team. He also carried a SWAC second-best slugging percentage of .725 across the campaign.

Martinez also finished atop the SWAC in several other categories which include RBIs (2nd), runs (5th), hits (5th) and sacrifice flies (8th).

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
