DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman baseball has made another addition to its coaching staff in the form of former Wildcat outfielder Sergio Rivera, who will rejoin the program as a graduate assistant for the upcoming season, head coach Jonathan Hernandez announced.
Rivera returns to the Wildcats after spending the last three seasons as a member of the B-CU baseball program. A two-time Preseason All-SWAC selection, Rivera appeared in 160 games during his career, making 151 starts while compiling a .280 batting average with 144 hits, 133 runs scored, 94 RBI and 84 stolen bases.
The outfielder enjoyed his most productive offensive season in 2025, batting .317 with 44 hits, 47 runs scored, 34 RBI and 36 stolen bases in 53 games. He also recorded a .470 on-base percentage and .504 slugging percentage during the campaign.
Rivera concluded his playing career in 2026 after helping lead the Wildcats while completing his degree in Business Administration. He will now transition into a coaching role with the program while continuing his education as a graduate student.
"We're excited to have Sergio back with our program in this new role," Hernandez said. "He understands what it means to be a Wildcat, and his experience as a player will allow him to relate to our student-athletes while continuing to grow as a coach. Sergio brings a lot of energy, knowledge and experience to our staff, and we're looking forward to having him back in the dugout."
During his three seasons at B-CU, Rivera established himself as a consistent offensive and baserunning threat. He finished his career with 26 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 79 walks, while reaching base at a .418 clip.
As a graduate assistant, Rivera will assist the Wildcats with day-to-day operations, player development and other responsibilities within the baseball program.
