Stone Mountain, Ga. - Kim Wong and Fern Grimshaw both fired outstanding scores over the weekend to help the Bethune-Cookman University women's golf team in capturing their third consecutive Women in Golf Foundation championship at the Stone Mountain Golf Club in Stone Mountain, Ga.

"It was a difficult course" was the synopsis from both B-CU head coach Fern Grimshaw (Dorset, England). That appeared to be the case for the rest of the field as well.

B-CU led by eight strokes after the first day as Jackson State was right on their heels until great play from freshman Kim Wong (East Montpelier, Vt.) and Grimshaw helped the Wildcats close the door behind them en route to their fourth consecutive title at the venerable Stone Mountain Golf Club.

The JSU Lady Tigers finished in second place out of 13 participating teams as leas golfer Shasta Averyhardt, cousin of current B-CU men's golfer Willie Mack III (Flint, Mich.) led all golfers as the individual medalist. Averyhardt also won the individual medal three weeks ago in Daytona Beach at the Bash at the Beach hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

As stated, Wong led the field for the Wildcats as she fired a two-day total of 162 (81 / 81), and Grimshaw finished just behind her with a mark of 166 (86 / 80). Also playing well was senior Becky Dowell (Somerset, England) with rounds of 87 and 81, respectively.

Other B-CU competitors were Maria Urquiola (Edo Anzoategui, Venezuela) fired an 86 and 93 in two rounds of golf.

For the Maroon and Gold, they have now taken home six (6) team medals this season [2007-08] as the overall winner, as well as finishing in the top five in all 10 events they have competed in for the year.

The next chance to catch the Wildcats on the links will be May 8-11 in Port St. Lucie, Fla. when they will try and capture the 2008 Minority Golf Championship sponsored by the PGA of America at the PGA Village. For more information, please stay tuned to www.BCCathletics.com.
